I'm OBSESSED with this shampoo bar!

About 5 years ago I decided to grow my hair out long. It hadn't been to or past my shoulders since the 1990's as I always had a short or longer bob style for more than 20 years.

But my hair was brittle and had a lot of breakage whenever I had tried to grow it longer, so instead I just kept it short. You can see below how fine my hair was. This was the length I normally kept it at.

(March 2021)

But I decided it was time to try some new methods to see if I could grow my hair longer.

The first thing I tried was ditching bottled shampoo. I got caught up in an ad for bar shampoo & conditioner on TikTok and decided to try it. I stuck with it until the end. At first I didn't notice much of a difference, but after about 6 weeks I started to notice less and less hair in the drain after washing. Plus these bars (which cost about $18 each =$36 about $12 per month) lasted me 3 months! Which on average was about the same or less than a bottle of shampoo or conditioner that would costs me between $6-$10 per bottle per month (total $12-$20).

(approximately 6-8 months after using bar shampoo)

After I ran out of the the first Shampoo & Conditioner bars I bought on TikTok, I decided to see if Sprouts had them. Although they did not carry this specific brand, they had several others which I tried throughout the year. Some were better than others, and had found a brand I had liked and used several times. Sadly when I went to restock a few months ago they were no longer carrying bar shampoo & conditioner 😢.

So I decided to look into it for my shop here and tried the Tangie Rosemary Mint bars. I'm not going to lie, they are actually the best ones I have ever used on my hair in the past 5 years!

You have no idea how much my hair has changed since switching to bar shampoo for my hair. No more chemicals, no more plastic waste, no more build up. I can go up to 5-6 days before I need to wash my hair again.

What else did I do to improve the quality of my hair? Around that time after I started using bar shampoo I wondered if rosemary scalp oil would help. I had tried using it before, but the quality of the oil and my methods didn't make any difference. I knew I had to try it in a different way.

From time to time I would massage my scalp with Sea Buckthorn or coconut oil. My hair is very dry and I would do this a few hours before washing it. It added shine but the thickness of the oil cause fallout when washing, so I stopped that method. That's when I decided to use an all natural rosemary oil specifically designed for hair growth when I noticed a big difference.

The night before I planned on washing it, I would put a few drops (10-20) on my scalp and let it sit for about 24 hours. I'd have to wear my hair back in a ponytail for the day, but that's pretty common. Before washing it 24 hours later, I'd massage my scalp well with my fingers, and brush it up side down with a wooden brush. This would feel sooooo good.

(Shortly after a 3 inch haircut in March 2025.)

Week after week I started noticing less and less hair in the drain. My hair became noticeably shinier, and I could wear my hair down for more days in a row after styling it. Styling usually involves air drying my hair, hitting it up with a ceramic hair wand or iron, and using a drugstore (higher end) brand of hairspray, with no need to retouch up until day 3.

As you can see in the 2nd photo near the top, it was like my "hair came alive" after I stopped using bottled shampoo from the drug store and started with the bar products. It was like my hair was saying to me "THANK YOU!" And after these 4 and a half years I've finally found a routine that's not too complicated and maintains the results claimed. My hair is not as fluffy as it was when I first freed it, but it's overall strength, shine, and manageability has really improved.
